Humans of New York is a blog and a book, filled with pictures and interviews from people on the streets of New York City. The creator, Brandon Stanton, walked the streets of New York City with his camera, asking anyone he passed to stop for a picture and a brief interview. The quotes ranged from one short sentence to a full eight paragraph story. Sometimes when he would photograph a young child, he wouldn’t take a quote, just a picture with the caption “Today in micro fashion.” Some are heartwarming stories about an older couple celebrating their 50th anniversary, while others are people talking about loved ones they’ve recently lost. Either way, by the time you’re done reading a couple of these, you won’t be disappointed.

When Brandon Stanton first created Humans of New York in 2010, it was by accident. He went to New York to take ten thousand for a photography project. He started off by taking pictures of New Yorkers, then as he went on he started putting in quotes too. Humans of New York has come a long way from where it first started. Now they occasionally interview people from other countries, and recently they’ve interviewed Hillary Clinton. When Humans of New York began, Brandon had no clue how popular it would become, because he did it for fun. Now Humans of New York has a rather large following on social media.

Humans of New York is a beautiful project that perfectly captures the essence of New Yorkers. On the Humans of New York website, Brandon Stanton talks about the importance of Humans of New York, and how it spreads positivity, which is something we need in the world right now.
